My Father’s Mechanical doesn’t just work on air conditioners and heaters. We also test for gas leaks to keep our customers safe. If you suspect you have a gas leak in your home or on the property, give us a call so we can come out and inspect the property thoroughly. Below you will find signs that you have a gas leak.
Ground Air Bubbles
If the gas is leaking out of the gas line underground in your yard, you will notice air bubbles seeping up from the ground when you water. If you see that the puddles in your yard are bubbling, turn off the gas right away and give us a call. You probably have a gas leak.
Rotten Egg Smells
In addition to the bubbles, natural gas smells like rotten eggs specifically so that you can detect it. You do not want to smell rotten eggs outside or inside your home. If you do, again, turn off the gas at the main line and call for a gas leak detection inspection.
Hissing Noises
As you are learning, you can use your sight and sense of smell to detect a gas leak. You can also use your sense of hearing. Have everyone be very quiet and listen carefully anywhere where there is a gas line to see if you can hear hissing. If you can, the gas is leaking out of the line.
Dying Foliage
A gas leak will also kill any of your foliage inside or outside. This includes your houseplants and your garden. If there is a section of your garden that is dying no matter what you do, have that area inspected for a leaking gas line underneath the ground.
Gas Poisoning
A gas leak can also poison you and your family. It can also make your pets sick. Symptoms of gas poisoning include confusion, dizziness, headaches, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. If anybody in the family exhibits the symptoms, turn off the gas and call for help.
Expensive Bill
Finally, if your gas bill has suddenly shot into the stratosphere, you probably have a gas leak. Even though you use more natural gas in the winter to heat your home, the bill should not be unreasonable. If it is, there is a gas line somewhere that has a leak.
